Disability Retirement
You may be eligible for a disability pension if you:
- Suffer from a total and permanent disability as defined in the HEPP Plan Text, and
- Are not in receipt of benefits from a specified long-term disability plan or are not currently requesting that a private disability plan be recognized for the Plan’s disability benefits provisions, and
- Terminate Plan membership before age 65.
If all the above criteria are met, you may be eligible for a disability pension on the first of the month following the date you terminate Plan membership. If eligible, you may choose from the various forms of pension offered under the Plan. For information about the various forms of pension offered, please refer to the Pension Benefits: Options at Retirement section. The monthly disability pension would be calculated as an unreduced pension and would not include the supplementary benefit, bridge benefit or the Integration with OAS (Level Income) option.
